ASSASSIN'S CREED: SYNDICATE - JACK THE RIPPER

It is MY creed now…

Jack the Ripper takes place twenty years after the events of Syndicate. London may be free of the Templars, but the infamous Jack the Ripper is striking fear into the hearts of the public. After her brother disappears, Evie Frye returns from her travels in India to bring an end to the Ripper’s reign once and for all.

Pretty good introduction, huh?

The story, whilst interesting, is no-where near as strong as AC3’s DLC, ‘Tyranny of King Washington’. Now that, that’s how you make a DLC. Anyway, the story is well paced, has a fun selection of mission types, and that’s about it. It’s good, but it’s not great. The same goes for the ending. It's good, but it's not what I hoped it was going to be.

The DLC makes one other introduction into the game. Fear tactics are very similar to Arkham Knight’s, but they’re a lot more fun. Using Fear Bombs and Spikes renders your enemies frightened, allowing the player to move on without fighting them.

Other gameplay is much the same as the main games, aside from ‘Brutal Takedowns’ and…oh, you get to play as the Ripper himself. When you play as him the screen goes all phsyco, and you really get a feeling of this guy’s insanity. He’s also the most overpowered guy ever. Don't get your hopes up, however. He isn't free-roam-able and only gets a couple of missions. Like most DLCs though, glitches and bugs are more common, but not so much that they’ll ruin the gameplay.

Some of the side missions are taken straight out of the main game, but there are a few new additions. Highlights include Walk of Shame and The Ripper’s Letters.

My only real annoyance with the DLC is the price. It’s really, really not worth £11.99. Maybe £8, but not £11.99. Yes it’s fun, but the length of the story doesn’t add up to the price.

Not that you asked, but AC4’s DLC ‘Freedom Cry’ is, in my opinion, still the most fun and by far the best. Damn…Now I’m gonna have to play through that again.

6.5/10
