MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

Oh, what a day! What a lovely day!
I’ll start by saying I haven’t seen the original three Mad Max films. I didn’t even watch the trailers for Fury Road. I only heard about it just before it came out. Weird, I know. Still, I went and watched it. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, because I had no idea what it was about. That being said, I’m so glad I went and saw it.
You will ride eternal, shiny and chrome!
The thing that instantly stands out about Fury Road, of course, is the spectacle. Despite the fact its set in ‘The Wasteland’, it’s a ridiculously good-looking movie. It’s actually quite outstanding. The second thing, is the fact that most of the stunts are practical, not GCI. That might not sound that great, but some of the stunts in this movie are insane. I mean INSANE.

I liked this picture too much to leave it out.
My world is fire. And blood.
I’ll admit, the story isn’t that strong. But that’s not really the point. It’s a car chase movie. Just….Y’know…Set in post-apocalypse Australia. After being captured by the really, really creepy Immortan Joe, our friendly neighbourhood Max joins forces with Furiosa, played brilliantly by Charlize Theron and they go on the run. See, simple.
I am the one who runs from the both the living and the dead.
The cast of the movie does a really great job. War-Boy Nux is played by Nicholas Hoult, who you may recognise as ‘Beast’ from the new X-Men movies. Max himself is played by Tom Hardy, who seems to of become one of Hollywood’s new favourite actors. While he may not necessarily have the most lines in the film, and you could even argue he isn’t the main-est character, it’s clearly his movie. It might just take you a couple of viewings to see it that way.
I am awaited in Valhalla!
I can’t stress enough how good this movie looks. The stunts are spectacular, as is the scenery. Who thought the outback could look this good? The soundtrack is great as well, and was done by Junkie XL. It’s quite re-assuring to know he’s also co-making the soundtrack to Batman V Superman.
Witness me.
Overview: The plot runs smoothly all the way through the film, and the pace is well set and never really slows done long enough for you to catch your breath. In some movies, that’s not a good thing. This isn’t one of those movies. It’s one of those movies that’s completely ridiculous in every way possible, from really wacky villains to utterly beautiful chaos. I know I’ve not covered everything in enough detail, but, having literally just finished watching it on Blu-Ray, I realise there’s too much to write. I hate when that happens.
9.5/10
Oh, and there’s this guy…
