“This mask is a symbol. For some, it brings fear. For others, hope.”

Episode 5, City of Lights, of Telltale’s Batman series sees Batman bring an end to both Penguin’s schemes at Wayne Enterprises and the Children of Arkham. While Episode 4 sets up this episode to be one hell of a finale, I’ve gotta say, it wasn’t that great.

Don’t get me wrong, the finale did have good, even great moments, chief of which was the final throw-down between Batman and Lady Arkham. But for the most part, the story is slow to the point where any drastic moment, any moment where the player should be tense, is drawn out to as long as it possibly could be. While the plot of the whole is solid for a series finale, it’s just a bit too slow.

Gameplay in Episode 5 was mixed. While in some parts the running was smooth, in others, and annoyingly mostly in the action scenes, gameplay became glitchy and jumpy. At one point I even found myself quitting the game and going back into it because of lagging action scenes.

On the whole, Episode 5 was a great end to the series that was, perhaps once too much, dragged down by the many ends it had to tie up and some poor gameplay. But look past that, and you’ll enjoy it just as much as the other episodes.
