MY FAVOURITE SCENES FROM MOVIES AND TV

We all have those scenes from films and TV shows that will stick with us longer than any others. Scenes which had us on the edge of our seats in either uncontrollable excitement or utter disbelief. So, in no particular order, here are mine.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Charge of the Rohirrim

Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy was, and is, nothing short of spectacular, and filled to the brim with incredible moments of cinematic genius. But for me, there will always be one winner. One scene that will always beat any other in the trilogy, and still gives me Goosebumps every time. Very few things will ever compare to the sound of the horn and the shot of the cavalry gathering on the hill, and I’m perfectly ok with that. (Feel free to skip to 2:03)

The Dark Knight Rises – Batman Returns

This is arguably my favourite movie scene ever. Coming from me, that’s a big statement, but in this case it stands. Watching those cap park lights go off one by one and Hans Zimmer’s incredible soundtrack could only mean one thing, and it was damn good to see the Dark Knight back on the big screen after four years off.

Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor – Gallifrey Stands

As a series on the whole, Doctor Who has some fantastic moments. But why have a fantastic moment with one Doctor, when you can have all thirteen? It is, a will probably remain for a long time to come, my favourite scene from all 53 and a half years of the series.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – The Patronus Light

I’ll admit, Azkaban isn’t my favourite Potter film. In fact, along with Half Blood Prince it’s one of the only two I don’t really enjoy watching. But there’s something about this scene, something that truly captures the magic and pureness of the series. The music, the visuals, the everything. I can’t describe it, so I’ll let the scene do the talking…

Man of Steel – First Flight

Man of Steel is a divisive film, not as much as it’s sequel, but still. I, however, love the hell out of it. Is it the perfect Superman film? Probably not. Does it feature possibly the best Superman scene to ever grace the big screen? For me, yes, it does. It perfectly captures Clark’s emotions in the scene, as well as the incredible feats he’s capable of.

The Flash – Barry says Goodbye

The Flash is arguably one of my two most liked TV shows ever, and season 1’s finale remains one of the best episodes of any series I think has ever graced the small screen. It’s not about fighting the villain, it about a choice: Go back and save someone from death, or accept the past? Grant Gustin’s performance absolutely shines throughout this scene, and it remains the show’s best.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – Batman Attacks

Batman V Superman is not a perfect film. In fact, many people, including me about half the time, will say it’s about as far as you can get from a perfect film. But there was one scene that stood out among the rest, and it was the fight scene towards the end featuring Batman and several poor souls trapped in a room with him. I’m a big comic fan, and seeing this on the big screen felt like a huge justice done for the character.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – The Awakening

Pre Episode 7, I don’t know what I would’ve said was my favourite film from the Star Wars saga. Then it came out, and we were given the shot of Rey using the Force to grab the Lightsaber from the snow accompanied by John Williams’ epic score. Enough said. (Admittedly you could just watch to about the 35 second mark, but go on, treat yourself and watch the whole video.)

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – Vader Attacks

This was THE scene in Rogue One. The one that had been rumoured for months on end. The scene which showed what Darth Vader is truly capable of. The scene which had everyone in the cinema saying ‘Holy F**k’. The scene that took the achievement of ‘My favourite Star Wars scene’ by an absolute landslide. Feel free to skip to 0:40.

Iron Man – The Avengers Initiative

Iron Man is a damn good film. It’s the film that kick started the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And here, nine years later, it’s still one of the best in the series. (Jesus, Iron Man is nine years old) But of all the scenes in the film, for me, the best comes after the credits have finished rolling. A scene which gets me all excited in a nerdy way every time I watch it. Enter Nick Fury, Director of Shield. He’s got something he wants to talk about with Tony Stark. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Independence Day - The President's Address

Lots of films have cool speeches that stand the test of time. But apart from the odd one liner here or there, nothing quite compares to the speech from Independence Day. 21 years later, and it's still one of the best.
